Polish multi-instrumentalist and composer Piotr Kurek might be best known for his acclaimed run of solo albums, like 2022's 'World Speaks' and 2023's Unsound-released 'Smartwoods', but he's been a prolific collaborator for years, playing with Hubert Zemler in Piętnastka, with Francesco De Gallo as Abrada and alongside Marcin Stefański as Ślepcy. Most recently, Kurek found common ground with Japanese-American improviser Patrick Shiroishi on 'Greyhound Days', released earlier this year on Mondoj, and he'll be bringing that energy to Unsound Osaka, playing alongside Jim O'Rourke and Eiko Ishibashi. Serial collaborators, both with each other and separately, O'Rourke and Ishibashi are two of the world's most uncompromising underground icons. Ishibashi has managed to balance divergent solo releases for labels such as Drag City and Black Truffle with her soundtrack work for films like the Ryusuke Hamaguchi's Oscar-winning 'Drive My Car' and its follow-up 'Evil Does Not Exist', and O'Rourke's three decade career is just as labyrinthine. A member of Chicago's pioneering post-rock outfit Gastr Del Sol, O'Rourke has produced records for Stereolab, Wilco and Sonic Youth, and his vast solo catalog is the stuff of legend, ranging from intricate, hook-laden rock to delicate musique concrète.
